David: PBS's 'This Old House' filming new season at Cambridge home

Crews from PBS?s ?This Old House? have begun shooting a new season of episodes that will involve the renovation of a 125-year-old home near Porter Square in Cambridge.

The design, restoration and renovation show that has been running for more 33-years has now focused it cameras and hammers on the interior of the home on Bellevue Avenue.

The 2 ? story, Victorian-era home is owned by Cambridge couple Sally Peterson and John Stone, and the restoration will be featured in the coming season of ?This Old House? which premieres nationwide on PBS in October.

Peterson said her family contacted ?This Old House? to see if they would be interested in renovating their home, which had once been a two-family house. Producers from ?This Old House? then picked the Cambridge home from several hundred houses that were considered.

?We were just big fans of the show,? Peterson said. ?It was always like a dream.?

Deborah Hood, the senior series producer for ?This Old House,? said producers were attracted to the family?s wish to renovate the home in a modern Scandinavian style. Architect Marcus Gleysteen has created the modern Scandinavian design for the renovation.

Kevin O?Connor, the host of the show, and Tom Silva, a longtime cast member and general contractor, were at the house last Wednesday shooting the first episode of the upcoming season.

Hood said it takes about 2-and-a-half days to film each episode, and at least 15 episodes will be filmed for the upcoming season. Meanwhile, she said people in Cambridge are bound to see the cast around the city over the next few months shooting footage to include with the half-hour episodes.

Another home in Essex will also be featured by ?This Old House? in a series of episodes that will premiere in January of 2013.
