Don't Forget The Hardware!

David: “Cabinet hardware, such as handles, hinges and drawer ball runners, are an essential part of a kitchen makeover, according to a carpenter and woodworker.

Norm Abram, who appears on This Old House, has revealed that he believes that improving your kitchen "is one of the best investments any homeowner can make".

He added that shopping for such ironmongery must be a careful operation, and should not be purely aesthetic.

He told boston.com: "I think of hardware for a cabinet like putting an addition on a house. You dont take a Colonial house and put on a modern addition. The hardware needs to be architecturally appropriate.

"Some cooks may prefer a cup pull, others a knob. Make sure your choice is not purely aesthetic but that youre making the kitchen comfortable with the new equipment," he added.

Abram added that a few simple improvements can have a massive effect.

"Hardware can make all the difference, whether youre just replacing a few knobs or accenting brand new cabinets."
